Proposal

Generally, the proposed formatting is fairly simple, however it is designed to provide more contrast and readability with the following points the basis of the update:

  • Structure
  • White space
  • Formatting

The stylesheet is available to view / download here: wiki.css

Structure

The main content block has been padded in on the left hand side creating a comfortable margin and allowing the H1 and H2 tags to overhang and create clear visual cues to the start of each section.

H1, H2 and optionally H3 tags also have bottom-borders to delineate sections more clearly.

There is also slightly more contrast between heading sizes.

Overall this provides clear visual structure between sections allowing the user to scan the page that much more easily.

White space

All block level tags have been redesigned with enough space around them that they feel comfortable in both short and long pages.

Leading (space between lines) has been slightly increased making it easier to scan paragraphs.

Formatting

tags have been permanently underlined to make cross-linking easier to spot, and to encourage linking in general.

tags have been given more space
tags now have a bolder colour to make them easier to spot in body text.

Modifiers have been introduced, which are combinations of nested inline tags such as , and used to override existing formatting for heading and pre blocks.

This allows for more expressiveness, whilst controlling the look and feel through CSS.
